Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Deputy Berdic your service, heroism and sacrifice for the citizens of Oregon and of the United States is sincerely appreciated ...as is the huge sacrifice made by your family.

All too often, those in the law enforcement and military professions lose their lives so others can enjoy the safety, security and freedoms of this nation; their battlefields are just different.

You may now rest in eternal peace brother...you certainly earned it.

And [justice] more than life!

I find it nearly impossible to come up with the words to adequately express my deep sorrow at this tragedy. Murder of a law enforcement officer is of a heinous evil that only comes from the Seventh Circle of Hell. My love and prayers go to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Sheriff Stanley Burdic, and to all First Responders worldwide.

Allen, Roseburg is my hometown. At the time of your assault, I was an EMT serving with Douglas County Fire District #2. I do not think we ever responded to the same incidents, nor do I believe we ever met personally. But I followed the events associated with your assault with great interest: The manhunt, capture, trial, and sentencing. We talked about it around the station as the story unfolded. I suppose this sadly closes the last chapter of my direct association with you.

When the sentence was handed down, everyone thought 40 years was a long time. However, if my calculations are correct and the perpetrator served his entire time, he would have completed it and been released sometime in the past few months.

Looking back on it now, that 40-year sentence does not seem to have been nearly long enough.

Deputy Burdic, it takes a rare form of courage to run towards danger when everyone else's instinct is to escape and scatter. Not everyone can do that -- but you did, and you paid the price so that others would not have to pay it for themselves.

Thank you.

You are a true hero and an inspiration to all decent, freedom-loving people. I am infinitely grateful you were willing to apply your knowledge, skill, and effort to protect the peace of our nation. Your name will be held with the deepest honor throughout history.

I very much appreciate your service and sacrifice to the citizens of Canyonville, Douglas County, the State of Oregon, and the United States -- and that includes your direct service to me and my family.

Our world is a brighter and safer place because you were in it.

Our world is a darker and more dangerous place because your life was taken away by evil incarnate.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.
