Sgt. Have work in New York City where they hate the police and many other major cities, we put on our uniforms and still protect the haters. We do it with honor and respect. I find it nearly impossible come up with the words to adequately express my deep sorrow at this tragedy. Murder of a police officer is of a heinous evil that only comes from the Seventh Circle of Hell. My love and prayers go to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant James Smith, and to all First Responders worldwide.

Sergeant Smith, you are true hero and an inspiration to all decent, freedom-loving people. I am infinitely grateful you were willing to apply your knowledge, skill, and effort to protect the peace of our nation. Your name will be held with the deepest honor throughout history.

I very much appreciate your service and sacrifice to the citizens of the State of Iowa and the United States -- and that includes, indirectly, your service to me and my family.

As the family member of a fallen officer and now resident of Iowa, I wish to send condolences to Trooper Smith's family and friends. It hurt to read of your death as you walked into danger. It just happened the procession from Ankeny to Independence drove right past my daughters softball tournament in Dike Sunday. I was impressed that the director stopped play so we could all pay respects as the procession drove past. I was glad to see the girls take a knee and the spectators all remove hats and silently pay their respects as well. I know that the family in Blue will always be there for your family Trooper Smith. Rest easy. Your brothers and sisters will take it from here. God bless all of our LEOs and their families.

May the Lord Bless your family and friends. Each day you’ve left home, You’ve put your life on the line.
The anger, disrespect and mental health issues have destroyed the American People.
My daughter was a police officer for ten years; she worked the streets, undercover, drug task force and prostitution rings. Everyday when she left home I worried. I prayed to the Lord to keep her safe and she’d make it home another night.
20 years of flying as a Flight Attendant. Each time I had to have a police officer meet the plane. I thanked the officer.
