The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

I God rest your soul brother. You were going to retire in a matter of weeks after 41 years of service. You could have chosen to take vacation days or stayed in the station, Yet you answered a call involving one of the most dangerous calls a police officer can answer - domestic violence disturbance. You answered a call for help at the last moment. Thank you for your dedication, service, and commitment to your community but above all - your badge.

My name is Harold Bedford. I was a classmate of Harold Preston at Jack Yates High School. Harold was different from the rest of us youngsters in school. He was always the consummate gentleman. He was always very respectful and so mature. In high school Harold was chubby physically. I saw him some time after high school and he had lost so much weight. He had become physically fit. He had become a police officer. Harold always had a beautiful smile, just look at his pictures. Now I understand why Harold was so different. He was already a man while we were still boys. I will close my reflection much the same way the Apostle Paul closed many of his letters ( May the Lord be with the spirit Harold showed and may His undeserved kindness be with his family and friends.
