Reflections for Police Officer Jorge Cabrera

When I got the news you were gone, I was in disbelief because not too long we were talking and laughing and I was telling you about my problems! You ALWAYS heard me out and you were one of the few people I trusted in the department! You helped me with a lot, from crash reports to advice on questions I had! You were truly and amazing person and a great officer/brotherin blue!

Rest in peace brother! You were such a great friend and you helped me through so much! You were there for me when everyone else gave me their backs and I couldn't have appreciated that more! Thank you for being an amazing friend and a great officer! Prayers go out to your family! We will take it from here!
You always had a smile on your face and always knew how to brighten up peoples days! I will never forget how you would always tell me to go to church where you and your wife would teach and to take my daughters because you knew they would like it!
You had such an amazing heart and I'm in disbelief God took you from your brothers and sisters as well as your family so soon! But He has a purpose on why he did it and only He knows!
You will be missed deeply by all of us at the department! Heaven has 2 great men up there now! Yourself and Speedy!

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jorge,

You are my friend. You are my brother in blue, but most importantly you are my brother in Christ. It doesn't seem real that you're no longer here with us. I know you are overjoyed to be in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so glad that you became part of my life when our 2 Sunday school classes merged. I never wanted to have to say this to you but I will now. Rest easy my brother. Until we meet again. Thanks for your friendship, love, support, prayers, and being an amazing Sunday School teacher. Love you Jorge!
