Reflections for Police Officer Christopher Bieker May

Chris,

Today is a sad day for us all but we must remind ourselves that a joyous reunion is occuring today in heaven. Your dear mother passed away this morning and, I am sure, she has already met you with open arms (and a beer for you). This brings me such comfort knowing how much you were missed by her and that she is with you now. Take care and watch over your dad and brother.

With love,
Karrie and Nick (cousins)

Hey Chris

As you know I stopped by the Memorial to visit. Ill be riding in the Unity Ride in your honor for Police Week. After the ride Ill have a few beers and laughs and remember the good times. I have your photo and name on my fridge at my desk.....people ask about you. I was in Atlanta and stopped by to see Timmy. Miss you both.
I see someone has an old t-shirt of yours they kept....I remember wearing your yellow boxers with patrol cars under my uniform......people thought I was over the edge.......still have your t-shirt from the tennis match Agassi played in Atlanta when he still had hair. Keep an eye on us bud - you are missed. We will share a beer May 15, 2008.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Chris and I started at F.C.S.D. around the same time till he was hired with the PD. He and i quickly became friends and was always there for a funny word or encouragement. TO this day i STILL have a shirt he lent me to wear, and since I was unable to return it to him properly will keep it always.

Chris,
I have thought about you from time to time. We worked security together at Frankie's Sports bar part time. I remember the day your sgt.worked in place of you on that following weekend. He told me what had happened. We were talking about going to a concert soon and taking your new white sports car you had just bought. You are missed but I will see you again.

Remebering this hero today. I wont forget you Chris, you will always be remebered by your freinds, co workers and of course family. A sad time here in WA as just last week Seattle lost an officer, just a bit to close to home. I had a chance to talk with your brother earlier this week. I hope your family had sometime today to reflect abck on your life and remeber the happy times you all shared together. You are missed, you are loved and you are remembered.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and all the members of the Fulton County Police Department. We were made safer by his service and we all suffer their tragic loss. The family of Officer May deserves our appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifice. No greater love has a man than the will to give his life for another. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer May is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Happy Holidays Chris. I stopped by last week to say hi to you and our grandparents. Someone accindently put a Cubs hat on your stone. I will try to get out there soon to replace it with a World Series White Sox hat. I miss you and hearing your stories at Christmas. Take care and welcome the Blue angles that came up yesterday from Jersy City. Every time a Bell rings and angle gets its wings.

Happy Thanksgiving Chris. I'm thinking of your family today. I had a great honor of meeting your brother in September after our paths crossed on line just a couple weeks earlier, he is a great guy and we have become close friends. WOW I guess I never really read your memorial, I am thinking of April 1999 when my brother was shot in the face. I have got to know your brother over the last couple months he was 29 when you were separated, I was 29 when I was separated. And a couple other things we have in common, I'm glad he said Hi to me that August day.

I thought of you today when I found this web site. I was a Ranger with the National Park Service and you were new to the zone in Fulton County. I remember your fun loving ways and your kindness. I remember as we parted, you always would say, "If you need anything, just call," I can not express the feelings of that day responding to the officer down call and finding out that it was you. We grew close in a very short time and I will always hold you close to my heart. It was at your funeral that I found that we share the same birth date. I know that your are keeping watch now just as you did for Fulton County. God bless you and your family.
