I first met Damon in 2006 when he applied with the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office. At the time I was assigned to Recruiting / Backgrounds. I had the pleasure of performing Damon's background investigation and could not have recommended a better person for hire.

I did not get to work with Damon that much after he was hired by the Sheriff's Office but I always remember seeing him with a smile on his face and a positive attitude even when conditions might dictate otherwise.

Godspeed Damon. You will be genuinely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you.

I am not an officer in any sense. I am an emergency nurse. I am a stranger who lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I am simply scrolling through this story, among the others here, and reading these responses. I lament & mourn the loss all of you have to now endure. I don't even know you, but you are real people, like me, with real struggles. And I truly feel in my heart for you all.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

Even though the time has come to end the watch, they are still watching. Even though they are no longer with us, they are still teaching. The loss is new and the pain is great but we carry on for our family’s sake. Give us the keys, we’ll take over from here. Now is the time to release your fears. We got your watch, we’ll carry on, rest with peace my brother for your never really gone.
