Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

Oh, beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And [justice] more than life!

I find it nearly impossible come up with the words to adequately express my deep sorrow at this tragedy. Murder of a police officer is of a heinous evil that only comes from the Seventh Circle of Hell. My love and prayers go to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant Glenn Dale Hutto, Jr., and to all First Responders worldwide.

Sergeant Hutto, you are true hero and an inspiration to all decent, freedom-loving people. I am infinitely grateful you were willing to apply your knowledge, skill, and effort to protect the peace of our nation. Your name will be held with the deepest honor throughout history.

I very much appreciate your service and sacrifice to the citizens of the City of Baton Rouge, the State of Louisiana, and the United States -- and that includes, indirectly, your service to me and my family.

Our world is a better and safer place because you were in it.

Our world is a darker and more dangerous place because your life was taken away by evil incarnate.
