Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Mark Randall Eckenrode

I am glad to see they made your death line of duty. You were on-duty and I know they tried their best to rush you to the hospital to save you. You were a good man. When I was a rookie officer I looked to my sergeants for guidance. Not all of them had the command presence, confidence level, and knowledge that you had. I remember thinking when you were the roll call sergeant that no matter what we would encounter that tour we would be okay with you there. Later through the years I would see you at court and you always said hi. I remember telling you that I was glad to see you in a more comfortable spot on your downslope. I was sadden to hear that you didn't make it to retirement. You were a soft spoken kind man and made a impact on me as an officer. We need more sergeants like you. Thank you for all your service and may god give comfort to your family.

Even though the time has come to end the watch, they are still watching. Even though they are no longer with us, they are still teaching. The loss is new and the pain is great but we carry on for our family’s sake. Give us the keys, we’ll take over from here. Now is the time to release your fears. We got your watch, we’ll carry on, rest with peace my brother for your never really gone.
