Elegy for the Badge 02/11/2020
by Gerardo Molinar
Brothers and Sisters gather round as memories are all that will remain as of today,
Disbelief and shock when the news of your last breath being taken away.
Though all will do their best that justice will be served for your demise,
The heart can't hide the hurt they feel as their tears well up their eyes.
The funeral procession slowly makes it's way to the final resting place,
As the unbroken bond, dedication and love for extended family is displayed.
Standing at attention they render their final salute as the casket goes by,
The final call with no answer over the radio, 10-7 and E.O.W makes everyone cry.
The 3 round volley echoes as taps or bag pipes play Amazing Grace,
The American flag is carefully folded as loved ones embrace.
The flag is presented to the widow or family member with gratitude of service,
For their ultimate sacrifice given and dedication to service is priceless.
Time will come and go and they will be forgotten except for a very few,
The extended family of Brothers and Sisters who wear the Badge too.

Cpl. Gerardo Molinar
El Paso Sheriff's Office (Retired)

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.
