Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Thomas J. Lyons

My father was also Thomas J Lyons Jr born Brooklyn New York in 1914.
He lived a long life of 81 years. My grandfather Thomas Lyons Sr. was fire chief of Brooklyn New York for many years until his retirement.

His early career included a law degree, specialising in criminal law, and then working for a large insurance company investigating life insurance fraud (involving murders).

I am sorry for your loss and still angry at the perpetrators.

I used to have some friends with Arab antecedents, but was shocked that they were quietly pleased about the attacks, despite having become citizens. Needless to say, we stopped being friends and I stopped making new friends with Arab antecedents. I had been unaware of their latent hatred for non-Arabs until the post 9/11 era.

I have passed this story on to my children and grandchildren, while never stopping them from making friends with many nationalities, especially since my husband and I live now in Europe and my children were born and brought up here. Still American nationalities and my son has married an American Girl and lives near lower Manhattan in New Jersey.

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation’s brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]

Tommy,

For some unknown reason you flashed in my thoughts today. I remember you in BXND as a fun loving, easy going guy, who always enjoyed a cocktail or two (as did I and the rest of the team).

Rest easy my friend and know that you are not forgotten.
