Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Christopher Dickerson

Chris, man, I can't believe it's been 4 years. It was an honor to work alongside you at the beginning of my career briefly.

I'm praying for 2024, your family and fellow deputies see the person responsible finally held accountable.

God bless your family with comfort on this day brother.

Officer Trent Welborn
Mineola Police Department

Tricky,

When I think of you, I can’t help but to think of all the goofy times we shared growing up together in school, baseball, football, and eventually at the fire department. You were a good man and an even better friend to all that knew you. I miss you, buddy.

My dear friend, we all miss you each and every day still. Your smile and laugh was so contagious and that is what I see every day. I wish they would have posted one of those pictures with your genuine smile showing your GENUINE, GENEROUS compassion for others. It is not mentioned in the biography that You were a Dispatcher for Carthage Police Department on your nights off to help support your family, you were a Volunteer for the Carthage Fire Department and still continuing to serve in the military under National Guard, not withstanding your coaching in sports with the kids. When we worked together in Dispatch at the Sheriff's Office, while becoming Triple-certified (Jailer, Dispatcher, Peace Officer), I often wondered when you slept and how you thrived in everything you did and maintained such a positive, humble, but charismatic attitude that kept everyone entertained and smiling. It's September, 2021 and you are STILL around us every single day and we miss you. Your killer has not come to justice, yet... but he will in this life, or the next. We know that you are a great addition in Heaven, making everyone laugh like you did here on this earth. We will try to continue on and take it from here, for you until we see you again (and probably soon). We love and miss you Dickerson. I hope that all of the other agencies and anyone else who reads about you, will realize what a profound loss it was to lose you. You were an asset to this community and this world. Thank you for ALL of your services!! Red line, thin gold line, blue line - you did it all and you did it well! Well done thy GOOD and FAITHFUL Servant!

Deputy Dickerson, your murder will face true justice if not in this world, then in the next. Being sent to Texas is a good sign that justice will be done, but how infuriating that it has to be.

You're gone from those who know and love you best, physically, but so long as they keep you forever in their hearts and minds, you will never truly be gone from them.

God Bless you, Brother, thank you for all of your service and may your eternal rest be ever peaceful.

Chris was a dedicated husband, father, friend, and officer. I was honored to be his dispatcher and for him to be my best friend. He always went above and beyond protecting his community. He’s very much loved and so many hearts are hurting....His boots will never be filled! But May his foot steps encourage others to be a reflection of him.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
