Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Jorge Rene DelRio

I have spent time reading these. The thoughts, stories and prayers are helpful in this time. I have been with DEA 20 years with 15 in the Dayton RO. It’s important to tell people a little about a Jorge. On that Monday we had done search warrants earlier in the day and Jorge was there then, and was always ready to do more. He was also ready to be in the stack on entry and help his team. Jorge laughed earlier that day with us in the office, and his laugh is worth remembering. It was distinct and made you smile inside. We’ll miss joking with him and hearing his laugh daily. Jorge loved working and was the best UC I have ever known. We did more cases together than I can count, and he was looking forward to doing more. He loved his wife and daughters beyond measure and often talked about them and how much he loved them. Jorge loved going to the range and no matter what kind of day was the best shot. On Tuesday we will honor our fallen brother and fiend and try to find our way forward without our Jorge. Thanks for the kind words on behalf of myself and other in the Dayton office.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Dayton Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

I am proud to have served with Det. DelRio. He was a member of my four-man drug enforcement unit in 1997 and 1998. Jorge was really my mentor when it came dealing with street-level drug activity even though I had been on the DPD 12 years longer and was his "supervisor." Because of the nature of his covert assignment for well over 25 years, Jorge worked in the shadows, earning little fanfare for the extraordinary successes he, and those who were lucky enough to work with him, achieved. Although impossible because of his undercover role during his career, he deserved celebrated departmental and public recognition that is only coming to him in death.

He is a truly a hero of the police profession and in the Dayton regional community.

The vile scum who murdered you, and was the catalyst for your death will face true justice, if not in this world, then in the next, I firmly believe this.

Your 30 years of service is commendable and admirable. I thank you for that. I also feel that you must have had a good character to have been able to do this for so long and keep your family together. I don't know you, but I feel you were a good man who did a good job. So long as those you leave behind keep you in their hearts and minds, you will never truly be gone from them.

God Bless and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.
