A corrections officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Woke up to the news that Officer Lee was taken from our ranks. I shed a tear not knowing him, but knowing is heart and determination. As a retired MCSO Detention Officer, I still fear from my brothers and sisters still manning the towers, dorms and housing units. It brings to mind the poem written by a NYPD officer entitled "The Forgotten Cop". Rest In Peace Officer Lee. Rest knowing that your brothers and sisters will carry on the watch for you. Forever in our hearts. Thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Maricopa County.

It is with sadness that I am writing this reflection. All too often we forget about the dangers that our detention officers have to deal with daily. We do understand the dangerous job that a field deputy goes through daily but we don’t think about the fact that the detention officers deal with those same, dangerous people daily. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Lee family as well as the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office family.
