THE FINAL INSPECTION:

The Policeman stood and faced his God.
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining bright
Just as brightly as his brass
“Step forward now, Policeman,
How shall I deal with you?
Hove you always turned the other cheek?
To my word have you been true?”
The Policeman squared his shoulders and said
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t
Because those of us who carry guns
Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was rough.
Because the world is awfully tough.
But I never took a thing
That wasn’t mine to keep…
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got to steep.
And I never passed a call for help.
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me.
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints often trod
As the Policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
“Step forward now Policeman,
You’ve born your burdens well,
Come walk a beet on heaven’s streets.
You’ve done your time in Hell.”

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Sheriff Allmendinger, our Lord wants you to be Him and He took you back to His home to serve Him. It seems hard to understand why you were taken at such a young age and leaving behind your loved ones, including your three children, but God's mind is different than ours. May He immerse you and your loved ones in His Divine Mercy. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jake was killed in the line of duty in such a tragic accident.

To the Allmendinger family, fellow deputies, and all who call Jake beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I know that that you will receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Allmendinger l gave to his community and the citizens of Montana and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 19, 2019.

God Bless You, Deputy Allmendinger, and your blood and blue families. Our prayers are with you all. You were young and just starting your career, and I remember well what that was like when I embarked as a young man on the same path so many years ago. How excited and proud I am sure you were to serve, protect your community and uphold the law. And sadly, like all of us, you knew the risks inherent in this undertaking to keep the peace even as you were called to make the ultimate sacrifice.

It is hard to find words that I know even before I say them they will do almost nothing to assuage the grief your loved ones are now going through over your untimely passing. I do know that pain myself as I have had two good friends that were also colleagues that were also taken at a so very young age long before their time. I can only take solace myself in the knowledge like them, you have already gone to a better place. At rest, your struggles here over. And In the end I have found some words to paraphrase spoken so long ago that also applies to those now that stood for what is right in this world, and as a result of that choice, are taken from the rest of us far too early: "..That from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that very cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that those gone shall not have died in vain.."
A. Lincoln

Rest well, Deputy Allmendinger, and God Bless to You and Yours.
