The more that I read about you, the sadder my heart gets. You are a beloved member of your Sikh community, a class act, a sterling human being, and a blessing to our world. The sacrifice that you and your family made will never be lost nor forgotten by the many that have been touched by your amazing life and story. May your loved ones far and near be blessed in knowing our prayers will carry them through this unimaginable time and our love will be with them forever.

My heart hurts for your wife, children, family and your brothers and sisters in blue at the Harris County Sheriff's Office today. I remember when you became an officer, when the fact that you had become an officer made headlines. I found it to be inspirational and promising for the future of law enforcement in our country. I was devastated to see your photo load when I opened the ODMP email alert I received yesterday. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. You will not be forgotten. I have never forgotten a poem that I heard years ago at the funeral of another young officer.
He had been killed while driving his radio car to assist another officer in following a stolen car. I am unsure what the title is or who the author is and so I am unable to give credit to the author but it is still sad, important, and meaningful:

The silence, now, is deafening
where once his laughter fell.

The beat is empty of the one
who knew its streets so well.

The squad room has a vacancy
no one else can occupy.

And so we stand, salute and grieve
again we say 'good-bye'.

I never personally met you, but I know your heart. I see the pain and hurt in this community, and I also mourn along side them. I've spent hours watching the videos of you interacting with the people you served, and am especially touched by the one where you allow the young deaf child to place you in handcuffs. We will always remember your sacrifice, Deputy. I pray that in this world where evil seems to grow abundant, that more good men and women will rise in your place to hold it at bay. You lived your life as a hero, and for that you will always be.
