I remember the first time I met you in the old IPC building. You were such an upstanding guy. You didn't have any problem with any questions that we asked about your religion. You wanted to educate us just like anyone else. After that initial encounter, any time that you came in you would greet us at the front desk with a smile and ask how we were that night.
I hate that your life was cut short, my friend. Just know that we will hold the line.

God Bless you, sir. I just finished watching a video of you playing with a deaf child in a restaurant. People don’t often see the good that we do. If you had any concerns about the impact you had, worry no more, brother. You left a legacy, you will not be forgotten. Your name and your deeds will live on. The world lost a hero, but the place beyond gained an angel.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sandeep was killed in the line of duty. Although the loss of every law enforcement officer grieves me, his loss was especially heartbreaking after I saw two different videos and saw how he engaged with the community and what a beautiful soul and spirit he was.
To the Dhaliwal family, fellow deputies, and all who call Sandeep beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I know that that you will receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal gave to his community and the citizens of Texas and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 27, 2019.

What a precious soul we lost! Deputy Dhaliwal, thank you for your kind assistance while we all worked to assist the citizens in and around Harris County during hurricane Harvey. I found myself needing assistance myself and you and the United Sikhs community helped me with open arms. I will forever be grateful to all of you for your kindness. Rest in Peace.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
