Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Carlos J. Cammon

I am sad to learn of the passing of a brother and hero in Deputy Sheriff Carlos Cammon. I beleive our Heavenly Father has welcomed him home into his loving arms where he patrol the Golden Streets of Heaven. May the Lord deliver blessings, comfort and peace to his family, friends and all members of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, California.

You fought valiantly for your life, my friend. Your partners didn’t forget about you while you were in the hospital and struggling these past 6 years. Those of us who knew you, trained with you, worked with you and laughed with you will never forget you, bro. Your drive, smile and personality were contagious.

I saw you draped in a flag early yesterday morning when I was granted the privilege of being a part of your escort home. I witnessed partners, who we’ve probably never met, rendering their final salute, before reaching your destination. It was an honor I won’t forget.

Miss you, Carlos. Rest easy brother. We’ll take it from here.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother.

He came into my life as swiftly as he left, but for the two weeks I came to know and train with him I discovered what a truly amazing person Carlos was. I was only a boot with a year on and he was a seasoned patrol deputy, but he treated me no different than anyone else. I will never forget that morning of the test, he was to run the O course right after me and the last words he spoke to me were, “Get after it.” As painful as it is, God only takes the good ones before their time. He was a fighter, he fought to finish the course, and he fought for his life for 6 years. Rest easy my friend, we will hold the line from here.
