I did not know Officer O'Sullivan, but when I heard of her death it sounded too familiar. Condolences to her family and to the other members of her department.

A very respectful song was recently written and posted on Youtube that was inspired by a similarly sad event. It speaks to how much your sacrifice is appreciated by the people you protect:

May God bless Officer O’Sullivan and her family at this most trying time.
Officer O’Sullivan died a true hero. She died protecting us, the general public. She died doing the job she loved and she will never be forgotten.
There is no greater love than to lay down your life for your fellowman.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Author - Jesus, KJV John 15:13.

Man means women as well. From academy training through EOW or retirement, officers are forever reminded that domestic disturbance calls rank among the more dangerous of which to respond. Yet officers accept the challenge daily knowing that they might render the ultimate service in the name of love: love for the work they do and love for the people they serve and protect. The woman being helped by Officer O’Sullivan on June 19, 2019 and the entire Sacramento community should pause to reflect on how much they were loved by Officer Tara O’Sullivan. I was serving as Sacramento’s City Attorney a little over 20 years ago when the hearts of the men and women of Police Department and of our community were deeply sadden by the loss of Officer Billy Bean’s life in the line of duty. We remember these young lives given so that we might be a little safer. Thanks to both of these officers for laying down their lives for friends. Praying God’s blessings of peace and comfort be with the O’Sullivan family, the SPD family, the City of Sacramento family and all who knew this officer.

Lord God, our hearts and prayers go out to the Sacramento, California Police Department and for the family, friends, and colleagues of Police Officer Tara O’Sullivan, of the Sacramento Police Department, who was shot and killed in the Line-of-Duty on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Depart, dear Sister-in-Blue, out of this world into the arms of the Father who created you, into the arms of the Son who redeemed you, and into the arms of the Spirit who made you whole. “You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith” [2Timothy 4:7]. Now rest easy in peace. We will take it from here. Amen.

Scripture teaches us that:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9]

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13]

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Sad....Rest in Peace. Toughest profession there is. Never such thing as a routine call. Too bad most of the public fails to realize this until a terrible unimaginable event such as this occurs.
