Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Master Trooper William James Modén

Will, I can't believe it has been 3 years since you were taken away too soon, everyday we are constantly reminded of you. Your life and memory still live on, and we can't wait to see you again. Your nephews miss you so much, and we share your stories everyday, we love you, we miss you, and know that you are with the Lord.
You left a lasting impact across this country, and we are forever grateful for the service you provided to the state of Colorado, and our communities.
You are forever loved big brother, ALWAYS!

Superman it's three years today. You are missed. I don't tell those troopers where to go anymore, but my days as your dispatcher were some of my best days. I'll never forget your call where you earned the nickname Superman and I still tell so many people about you and that call.

I know you're in heaven with Jesus and God the Father so for now I'll just say, "I'll see you when I get there."

Miss Decline
Former (thankfully) CSP dispatcher

Son, it's been over two years since we lost you to a tragic and needless accident. Not a single moment, in every hour, of every day, goes by without thoughts of you - you are always and forever in our hearts. Your loss is unbearable to us; what gives us peace is knowing that you are at rest with Our Lord and Savior, free of the burdens of this world. We were blessed to have you for 37 years. Love You and God Bless You, "Wills", always and forever!

I was very saddened to learn of your passing. The last 12 years of my career with the Adams County Sheriff's Office were spent in the eastern part of the county. Here we worked often with CSP and Arapahoe CO SO, so am very familiar with that section of I-70. My thoughts and prayers go to your family, the CSP family and those who were there during this tragic event. Rest in peace.

Rest In Peace Trooper Moden. A speeding Mother with Infant on board brought you there to rescue, and another driver with equal disregard to life struck and killed you. My heart and soul aches with the selfish deadly disregard of laws by so many citizens on our Streets and Highways. My thoughts and Prayers are with your family that God will hold them in his arms and give them comfort and strength in their time of sorrow at so great a loss.
Gone to soon. Thank you for your selfless dedicated Service to all Citizens.

Mother of two Officers

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
