Reflections for Police Officer Robert Stanton McKeithen

May you always be remembered as the man you are Bob. Over the 30 years I've known you, your path was well lit and protected. The lessons I've learned from you, from life and on the road will never be forgotten. Guard the gates as you guarded and protected the citizens. You'll be missed by everyone that's ever known you, and by those that never met you.

Lord God, our hearts and prayers go out to the Biloxi, Mississippi Police Department and for the family, friends, and colleagues of Police Officer Robert McKeithen, of the Biloxi Police Department, who was shot and killed in the Line-of-Duty on Sunday, May 5, 2019. Depart, dear Brother-in-Blue, out of this world into the arms of the Father who created you, into the arms of the Son who redeemed you, and into the arms of the Spirit who made you whole. “You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith” [2Timothy 4:7]. Now rest easy in peace. We will take it from here. Amen.

Scripture teaches us that:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
