Thank you for all your service you have done. The courage you have in the profession as a law enforcement takes more than anyone can imagine. The impact you've made in the El Paso County Sheriff's Department and the community will forever be remember. The honor, courage, and selfless service you inspire of all current and future law enforcement to be is impacting. The amount of respect I have for you Deputy Sheriff Peter Herrera is limitless.

To have the El Paso community respect and honor your legacy is a reflection of who you are as a person. The fact, that you were willing to scarifies your life in the line of duty because of the passion you had for the Sheriff's department is incredible and heroic. You made me want to be someone like you. Once again, thank you for all you have done.

“My eyes have seen things yours has not,
My heart had burned in ways yours cannot,
My soul has bled in ways yours will not,
The nots, cannots, and will nots are the sheep of our community,
They sleep without fear, because I am the wolf that keeps the other wolves at bay”

Rip brother, I know your still watching down. Keep the wolves at bay as you did everyday’

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"The Final Inspection"

The Deputy stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Deputy.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The Deputy squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Deputy waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Deputy,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
