I was stationed with Paul from 1993 to 1994 at Osan AB in Korea. I haven’t talked to him since then, but the Paul I knew was a great guy. Good at his job (K9 trainer), funny, and a mentor to the Airmen under his charge. I have no doubt that carried into his life as a Phoenix Police Officer. Thoughts and prayers to Paul’s family and friends.

Posted at Clark with Lumpy on B Flight/Nighthawks. He was the one who walked me thru the washout first time I got posted there. He knew the trails that went thru 10ft Elephant grass, like the back of his hand. Still recall the tree of lights and the trail that went to it. It was an honor to serve with him. He always had a smile and a kind of cool hand Luke persona. He shared his knowledge and called it as it was. He was always ready to step up and charge into what the job required. To his family and all that knew him, may peace be found, for one who left us too soon… Know the Pearly Gates just became a bit more secure, rest in peace brother. "Starch"

Rode with Paul for four years on the 92A squad out of Cactus Park Precinct. Great partner and a great guy. Well be sorely missed. It's still unreal, so sad. Phoenix lost a damn good cop!! God bless!

Had the pleasure of working with Officer Rutherford, while we were both Military Working Dog Handlers in the Air Force at Clark Air Base, Philippines. Paul, or "Lumpy" as we referred to him was a great guy and a heck of a good dog handler. So said to hear the news today from another Dog Handler that knew him from Clark. My thoughts and prays are with his wife and family, for comfort and strength. K-9 Guardians of the Night!!!
