I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

I am so very sorry that Chicago lost more beloved sons, they were sons, fathers, and Police officers! I would like all the 5th District of CPD to know that I will be praying for them and they will always have my support in any way that I can provide it. Both these Officer's died as result of criminal activity occurring in this great City and their loss is extremely troubling. My hope is that the families of these officers will receive all the necessary support to keep moving forward and I ask God to bless them all the days of their life moving forward.
