Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Edgar Isidro Flores

It was a little before 1700hrs, I was driving home from the academy on I-20 West. I was monitoring the South Precinct radio so I can train myself to listen and understand the codes/signals. Just before Candler Road, I can hear the dispatcher come over trying to raise 321E. I hear the location and I'm thinking I'm right there oh how I wish I could stop and check on him, but I'm a recruit, what can I do? How can I help this officer? Finally as I am approaching the exit, I see blue lights flying over the bridge heading in the direction of your last position and I heard it over the radio. OFFICER DOWN OFFICER DOWN! I couldn't believe it.

There have only been a few times in my life that I felt hopeless and this was one of those times. Because of this event, I try to make it an attempt to always check on any officer I see on a traffic stop or call if able, I always listen to my radio when coming to work and going home. While I didn't get a chance to meet you due to your graduation date and my start date, we are Brothers not only through DKPD, South Precinct, but also through our Instructor Shantel Williams .

I pray that you continue to watch over your family, friends, and Brothers/sisters of DKPD and South Precinct.

Brother, I met your mom today. She came up to me, while I had my work vest on at the gym, and asked for a hug. She told me your story. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Your mother has my number and your family is my family. They miss you like crazy. I will watch over them with you. Until Valhalla.

Hermano to have worked besides you was truly an honor. I’ll never forget the funny conversations about our calls at work and who can forget about that smile. Honestly I will never understand why you were taking from us, pero solo dios sabe. The day I got the call from Gutierrez about what happened to you. I was in disbelief, I was angry as to why this happened especially to someone as great as you. I’ve been with your family ever since that day, and I promise to always be there for them as long as I can. We will never forget you and we’ll continue to honor your legacy. All your brothers and sisters from South Precinct miss you dearly. Forever in our hearts #3423 Officer Edgar I.Flores

Your departure has been difficult to make sense of. Being one of the first on scene has made this especially difficult to cope with. Such a tragic event couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. As a rookie officer, you were very humble when seeking out guidance from CID and you always carried yourself as an approachable officer. Not to mention your constant smile. Just an all around pleasant person to be around.
I can't seem to stop wondering why fate lead you into the path of such an evil human being. I have to take solace that you are in a much better place and someday hope to cross paths with you again and see that winning smile.
I keep your picture at my desk to remember the man I knew before this tragic incident. Rest in peace my brother. Thank you for your service!!!!!
