On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Mark died in the line of duty as one of our 9/11 heroes

To the Gado family, fellow officers, and all who call Mark beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I hope that as the first anniversary of your loved one's untimely death approaches, that you continue to receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Detective Gado gave to his community and the citizens of New York and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 16, 2018.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over seven years. I pray that Mark's life and death will bring glory to God.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

I met you around 2015 while researching my great-grandfather NCPD Fred Hirsch LOD murder. His case intertwined with a case in your jurisdiction long before either of us were on the job. You wrote a book on the case / cases and gave me a lot of your research. Oddly enough I met you at one of your chemo treatments in NYC. You looked good and seemed to be in good spirits. My family and especially my father appreciated all that you gave to us. Unfortunately my father (retired NCPD) passed away a little before you on 8/28/18 also from cancer. Hopefully you guys can get together up in heaven.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.
