I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

On days like today I wish I had never left the profession. While there are those who do not appreciate the day to day sacrifices of the job, I do know them. To hear that you were pursuing your dream of being a peacekeeper only to be senselessly gunned down literally breaks my heart. There are peace officers actively looking for the criminal who did this to you and they will bring him to justice one way or another. They will continue doing the work you gave your life to and for. Thank you for your service Officer Toney. Your sacrifice was not in vain.
