William Brown was my Grandfather whom I never knew because he was a fallen hero in the line of duty so long ago. When he died, he left behind a wife, my Grandmother Margaret, and a daughter, my mom, named Dorothy (not a son). He was also a stepfather to three boys Harold, Ralph, and Herman whom he also left behind. In a time when blended families were not as accepted as today, he showed great heart and wisdom. He loved them and supported them, and he was much loved.

My mother was only three months old when he was killed, left without a father’s loving care. However, in spite of this, his legacy is alive and has prevailed over four generations. I am saddened to think of our family's loss and the impact his death had on so many, even those who were to come.
But I am happy to honor him today. I can only say that I wish I had had the opportunity to know him & to have sat upon his knee as other children do. I am overwhelmed at his bravery and humbled by his sense of duty.

In addition, I want to express my gratitude to odmp.org for remembering the Fallen Law Enforcement Officers such as my Grandfather. I want to thank them for allowing me to show my respect and love for one Patrolman William Brown also lovingly known as my Grandpa.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 96th anniversary year of your death.

Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
