Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Michael John Michalski

Iam so sorry for your loss. For someone that gives their life to help other to have that live ripped away to a low life criminal is unforgivable. I did not have the privilege of knowing him but the is still wide spread with a ripple effect. I will pray for you.

I met Mike when he was in his 20's and I was a young 30 something Patrol Officer. Mike was a sweet guy then, working at Sears as a Loss Prevention Officer. It took me a while to get on here to write this, because every time I think about you Mike, there's pain due to your loss. I flew my thin blue line flag at half mast as the governor wished and each day I got up and looked at it, well, it was hard. I wonder how in the heck I survive to retire and you got to Jesus's loving arms before what I would think is your time. It doesn't make sense. But God is sovereign. He chooses, not us. Heaven must be so glad to have a warrior like you in the ranks. When I heard Jesus called you home, I had to go through my old stuff because we used to talk all the time and we solved the worlds problems. I found a letter you wrote to my department commending something I had done way back in 1989. Geez. It's something I cherished then and now- more than ever. It will be among my favorite things when my kids go through them some fine day when we meet again in glory. For your family, Mike, there just aren't words. All I can say is I pray for them- for peace in your loss. The funeral was a true reflection and testament to the man you were. I was very glad to be there. It helped. But the only true glory in this tragic loss belongs to Jesus, the keeper of your soul. You were right, the only thing that really counts is salvation. Eternity is a very, very long time. You touched so many lives. You were God's instrument in this fallen world, and flawed as we humans can be, you finished well brother. You are missed.

I hope that everyone can find comfort in Revelation 21:4 where it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we see him again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.

What a testament to Office Michalski's life that we heard of him on Detroit radio WMUZ. He was a tremendous warrior for all that is good and righteous. The heartbreaking loss of his life here is offset by his glorious life in Heaven now as a brother in Christ. May God bless, protect and provide for his wife and sons. May they hold tight to the knowledge that his life and stellar reputation went far beyond the realm of his beat. He is a hero and model for all officers and laymen alike.
