Reflections for Senior Corporal Earl James "Jamie" Givens, III

May God watch over the family and fellow officers these heroes worked with. We can only imagine their pain. But we can sympathize with them and we must support them. This is what the Patriots and Heroes looks like folks. Running to the danger when all others run away from it. Selfless and fearless to the end. They now work heavens Beat. And are in God's hands forever. Ever watching down on us all.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your memory.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Jamie was one of the very very best friends I had in my life. He and his wife Jill, a nurse he met and later married after meeting her at Parkland Hospital after he transported an injured arrestee there, lived in the home next to my Mother since he moved here from Oklahoma. My late Mother loved him like a son, and he watched over her giving me a great sense of appreciation. We spent hours together. Traveling all around Dallas doing “stuff”, watching hours of sports together in our home with Pizza and cold beer. I’ve yet to see mention of his decades with the DPD Mounted Unit that he so loved. He was standard fare sitting 15 feet high on his mount at the State Fair every October, and at any required mounted gathering for the department. I haven’t been able to sleep, having been rocked with the sudden announcement on the local news. He was always there when you needed him, his laugh and charm were infectious. There was an incorrect, overturned problem he overcame early in his career with DPD, and the “welcome back party” at his home on Casa Loma Avenue in Coronado Hills looked like a police full meeting, with 50+ squad cars, and dozens offellow officers dancing until dawn. I’ll never forget Jamie. It’s another example of believing there’s always tomorrow to see someone so loved. There’s no guarantee, hug someone dear to you today.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.
