Officer Coulter, may you continue to Rest in Peace with Our Lord & Savior. I personally knew Thomas. He made an impact on many lives and people who came to know him. I worked for Volusia County and he was the prisoner transport driver for DBPD. He always brought a smile to our faces and we were all so excited when he went full-time to be a road officer. It was a tragic loss we all felt when he passed. And unfortunately I am reminded of him every time another officer passes that I know. I hope you have found paradise Thomas and I will see you again when my watch ends.

I hope that everyone can find comfort in Revelation 21:4 where it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we see him again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Thomas died in the line of duty.

To the Coulter family, fellow officers , and all who call Thomas beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you. You were so young and just starting your career, but you answered the call to duty and service and for that I honor you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Thomas gave to his community and the citizens of Florida and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 21st, 2018.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Police Officer Thomas Coulter and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Coulter, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on.  Just as you were always with him in the course of his duties, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be.  In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Coulter is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thomas, so young, so new. God chose you early, for reasons we will never understand. To Thomas’ family, I am so sorry for your loss. Thomas is a hero, not for what he did, but what he chose to do.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Coulter, your career never got a chance and you never were able to prove yourself. This is sad but not as sad as your passing and the void you have left in so many lives. If they keep you forever in their hearts and minds, you will never truly be gone, Brother.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

I attended the police academy with Officer Coulter. While I only knew him for the 6 months we were in the academy together, I knew that he was such a strong willed, dedicated individual who wanted to do nothing more than help people. Everyday he showed up to class with a smile a strong positive attitude. He studied more than half the class put together and even helped me study on a couple tests. Officer Coulter was exceptionally proud of his accomplishments during our graduation, and even married his wife only a couple months after. I am deeply saddened by this, and if Officer Coulter's family reads this, I am sorry for your loss.
