Members of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police understand this pain. Our staff asks that everyone offer condolences and share this link. The Morelli, Joering and our Police families received love and support from all over the world when Tony and Eric were killed in the line of duty. That provided strength during that tragic time.

We ask that everyone send that same level of love and support to the immediate family of Deputy Sheriff William J. Gentry, Jr. and the extended law enforcement family of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, Florida.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your memory.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

This has been one of the worse days for HCSO. While blue brothers/sisters mourn the loss of Deputy Gentry, our hearts break for his family. But we will continue to serve and protect as we took the oath to do so. Many don't understand how we can continue to do our jobs, and there's times when we ourselves wonder. It's a sacrifice we are all aware of. I remind myself of this every morning I put my uniform on. Tomorrow morning will be like many before and many to come when I suit up, on my day off, and head into work. To all my brothers and sisters, both here and afar...be vigilant, watch your six, and go home to your families. There are no "routine" calls. RIP Deputy Gentry, we've got it from here.

Deputy Adam N. Schwartz
Highlands County Sheriff's Office
