Boss during a time I had given up on the job, the politics, the inequities, the fools, I saw you doing a Lonely one man foot patrol thru the backyard of the housing projects. We backed you up, of course, but you never said a word, you were just out there leading from the front, Inspiring by example, not giving a thought to all the bad press and the nonsense that brings so many of us down. Frankly you were "better" then the rest of us and by being so made us "better". I can still see you, walking alone thru those projects, trying to stop a gang retaliation by your presence. Trying to give the people there a better life.

Every morning I go to my knees.  During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm.  They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil.  If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain.  Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I know that God sends those angels to watch over our officers, sometimes to protect them and sometimes to whisk our officers into His presence.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf.   Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over six years.  I pray that Paul's life and death will bring glory to His name.

Trust those prayers.  God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

As I watch the snow come down and cover the trees it brings more memories to mind. Of that Saturday afternoon of my Husband’s Services ( CPD Tactical Officers Eddie N. Jones Jr 10th Dist. EOW 01/07/91) How beautiful it looked out. The beauty in the snow some how represented such a beautiful soul that had gone on to Heaven. Today yet again that same feeling has come over me. Thank you, Commander for your ultimate sacrifice to the city of Chicago. Erin and Grace unfortunately you have join a family that pray to never have to receive new members. I pray your strength at this time and will continue to keep you in my prayers for the days to come. Praying for my entire family in blue

As a former ER nurse, I reflect on all the CPD as a family. Commander Bauer was not just anyone, he was a person, a loving father and husband with colleagues that loved him. This tragic event is personal because in Chicago, gun violence is happening anywhere, anytime and it takes away those we need to protect us. I am deeply pained by this, The CPD needs more help, they need an arsenal of men and women to infiltrate all the bad areas and get these criminals and we need to support them when they have to take one down. Police Lives Matter.

I was so heart broken to hear of Commander Bauer's untimely death. My thoughts and prayers are with his widow and daughter. Thank you officer Bauer for leaving this world a better place. Despite the fact that evil is alive and well the men and women of Blue help make our world a better and safer place EVERYDAY. Sometimes we as civilians forget and just take it for granted. Thank you to the men and women in blue who give so much and sometimes even your lives to help keep all of us safe. God Bless you all!

Commander Paul R. Bauer. An off duty Commander gives his life for others. He could have turned a blind eye - he was off duty & not in uniform but like most Officers I have talked to the job doesn't end when the uniform comes off. He is a fallen hero to us & I'm know he is a hero to his wife and daughter too but my heartfelt condolences go to them both as they honor him and then try their best to get used to life without him. In 31 years I can only imagine how many people he has saved or help and I hope this will give them some comfort at this difficult time. These are probably not all the right words but something about his passing has left me thinking about you both so even if II have used all the right words - you will know the thoughts come directly come from my heart. Thinking of you both and sending Blessings, Strength and Sympathy to you both.
