Officer Doss, as I saw your age and as I saw that you left a 9-year-old baby, my first reaction was to ask Why, why, why. But then I remembered that we have a God who is wise and loving and powerful, and I know now that in His infinite wisdom, there is a reason that only He would know. I am confident that He will take care of your baby and loved ones and You will enjoy eternal rest in His loving presence. May He immerse you and your loved ones in His Divine Mercy.

It seems the death of a police officer is almost a daily occurrence. My law enforcement family has not even had a chance to bury our comrade before another had fallen. So sorry to hear of your death. I hope that your family, friends and co-workers know that they do not suffer alone and that we are there for them as I am sure they were there for us in our suffering. God bless all of you and our prayers are with you. To Officer Doss, from the Adcom 911 family, we salute you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Detroit Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
