Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Daniel Alexander McCartney

To the family, my deepest sympathies........
Also, just want to make sure the family know about the:
"PUBLIC SERVICE OFFICERS BENEFIT" (PSOB), death benefit officers program, that the family has to apply for, when a family member is killed in the line of duty.

Daniel,
We worked with some of the same people. I never knew you personally however because of our common bond I can’t help but feel a kinship with you.
I am comforted by the fact that men like you are still patrolling out streets today. Rest easy, we will have the Watch from here.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Daniel was killed.

To the McCartney family, fellow deputies, and all who call Daniel beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy McCartney gave to his community and the citizens of Washington and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 8th, 2018.

We were next door neighbors to Daniel, Ciera, Tytus, Tate and Traxton when they lived in Montesano, before Daniel transferred to Pierce County. What a great loving family.
Daniel mentioned that he was moving to the Pierce County SO. He explained that there was "more action" in Pierce County. How prophetic and how tragically correct.
We were out of town when the bad news came. We saw Daniel's picture on TV with the caption "police officer killed in WA." Only thing we could do was "Oh, dear God, please not Daniel." Shed some tears that day.
God Bless and Keep Ciera and the boys. Rest in peace, Daniel. We miss you & hold you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Never Met Deputy Daniel McCartney. But I know as a Pierce County citizen, I take comfort in knowing there are such men of dedication, courage and character as Daniel McCartney lived by. My heart goes out to his wife and 3 sons who must now endure a future of what if instead of a sure future. Daniel will miss his sons' milestones, graduation, marriage, careers. But I send this to his sons..he may not be with you in person, but he will always be with you in spirit. Live your lives as he taught you. Make him a model for your lives!
God Bless Daniel McCartney and his family!

I don't know Deputy McCartney, just of him. My heart broke as we heard this news. We stood to honor him and his family as they made their way to the ceremony. To see all the support and love was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. A few days later, as I drove down Spanaway Loop road, I thought that this was the last time the family took this drive together. Although I don't know you, I think of you, Daniel's wife, and your sons. I lift you all up in prayer. Know your husband and daddy was a hero on earth and YOUR angel in Heaven. God Bless you and your family.

Even though it's been over 10 years since I dated your Navy friend I still remember the fun double dates we all did! I don't understand God's plan in bringing you home so soon, especially when this world need sooo many more people like you in it, but I suppose that's where faith comes in. I wish you didn't have to physically leave Cierra and the boys, my heart breaks for them, but they are surrounded by so many people that love them and will help them through. While your earthly EOW was Jan 8th, I know you will continue to watch over your family from heaven.

Hey Dan, Sorry about letting go of the balloon early yesterday. I was wearing those white gloves and it just slipped. I'm sure you thought that was pretty funny. I have to come clean with you about something. All those times you told me about certain people that had a warrant and I nodded like I knew exactly who you were talking about, I didn't. I'm bad with names. Anyway, I'm going to miss chasing down the bad guys with you, and I'm even going to miss how you spoke really quietly into the mic when you went out on traffic so we all turned our radio up to 12. Send me your email address in Heaven so we can still have our late night political discussions. "RS, Kapowsin Fire?" Rest In Peace 484.....
