Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Daniel Alexander McCartney

My uncle was a great man. He was always down to put everybody else before himself. From as far back as I could remember, he was always everybody’s saving grace. he loved football and basketball, he was very good at both. He loved his wife and his kids. He was a very family oriented, faith oriented man. We miss him every day.

The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice, Dan McCartney. My mom let me know that she went to your memorial service. I regret not attending with her due to my own life circumstances, but as a US Navy veteran who understands the concept of sacrificing your own wants for the needs of others, I want to wish the best for your family. Every time I pass the area I will remember you and the positivity of your actions to help defend our community. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart for helping me go through my own tough times. Wishing the best for our broken HUMAN world.

I had the honor of being one of Daniel's teachers and coach at Loyalton HS. He was already on his way to becoming one of America's finest. He never required much direction; he was always willing to put in the effort to get the job done. Sad to hear this day that he didn't get the opportunity to fulfill more dreams. My prayers go out to his wife and children, may they always be comforted in knowing what an exceptional man Daniel is. "Coach D."

I hope that everyone can find comfort in Revelation 21:4 where it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we see him again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.

Deepest condolences to Family, Department and Friends. Visit the web site ImagineHeaven.net for a glimpse of the Glorious Reunions awaiting. All law enforcement men and women indeed qualify as "Foxhole Christians" with their duty dangers. As Ray Comfort at LivingWater.com says "Passing is the doormat they wipe their feet on before entering Heaven.” It is our belief they will hear from the Lord Himself. “Do not fear. for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:12).
