Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Eric Brian Overall

Tomorrow I will be riding for fallen Deputy Overall. As part of the Michigan Police Unity Team and a Deputy (R) For Oakland County Sheriff Office I'll be embarking on a 397 mile bicycle ride leaving St. Joseph MI and ending in Petosky MI. Eric and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers and my motivation to complete this year's ride. Gone but never Forgotten!

This year I will be riding for Deputy Eric Overall in the Thin Blue Shoreline bicycle tour. As a member of the Oakland Country Sheriff Department and a member of the Michigan Police Unity Team, I am honored to carry Deputy Overalls name and badge number over 400 miles in this years event.

Prayers to Ken and the family as the years pass the hurt begins to ease, but the memory and legacy will never fade.

It is an honor and privilege of mine to ride for Eric this year!

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Eric was killed.

To the Overall family, fellow officers, and all who call Eric beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Overall gave to his community and the citizens of Michigan and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 23rd, 2017.

I never ever thought I’d be leaving a reflection on your end of watch memorial... I’ve posted reflections here for years, but I never thought I’d leave one for my best friend. The pain hasn’t subsided, my anger is still buzzing and my heart still hurts. I love you, I will take care of your son as much as I can, and I will honor you forever. Miss ya bud! #NEVERQUIT #664

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over six years. I pray that Eric's life and death will bring glory to His name.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.
