George Dapping was my Great Uncle,
Brother to my Grandfather Charles Dapping who named his first son after his fallen brother two yrs later in 1917,
who then immigrated to Canada 4 yrs later in 1919
I had been actively searching for George Dapping on my ancestry site for 10 yrs when finally an article showed up in my google search in 2017 where the NYPD had decided to honor George Dapping !
Finally a picture to add to the face of a man whom I had been searching for so long brought tears to my eyes,
I spread the news and added the information to my ancestry site so the rest of mine and Georges Family could find peace.
Thank you to the NYPD for honoring my great uncle 102 yrs after his death and for helping us find one of our own,
Rest in Peace Great Uncle George
I honor you for your courage and am proud to call you family.

This is my grandfathers younger brother. My mother “Emily” talked about this tragedy and why her mom and dad moved to Alberta Canada.
Would love to visit this area and honour Georges memory and service. Lori (Emily’s) youngest daughter

Patrol,am George Dapping was my grandfather's younger brother..and my great uncle. We always heard a story but granddad would never speak of it. George's death was the reason grandfather moved to Canada. My Grt Grandfather Charles w. Dapping was also a NYPD working our of Williamsbridge and Wakefield areas. He was in the old tenderloin area.We have never seen a photo of my grt grandfather Charles who served I believe 30 years on the force. Until now we never seen a photo of George either.Until grt grdfathers death in 1917 he was very mad that George never got a police burial and no one from his precinct was there, which to grt grandfather ws a total insult from the police dept. During the now commerations to honour these men was their a pamphlet or something I could send for? Also where could I find his police graduation picture and grt grandfathers. There is maybe 6 relative in new York and rest in Canada so I would like to know who attened on his behalf is possible.
