Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Robert Allan French

To my friend Bob French,
You were my beat partner for many years, and I remember how you were such a hard worker; never shirking from responsibility, and how you volunteered to handle so many "end of watch" calls. You were not just a great cop, but a good man, and a role model to many. We knew we could count on you to have our back, and today you sacrificed your own life doing just that. You died protecting your fellow officers and your community. May your family find peace and be comforted, may your community come together in the acknowledgment of your sacrifice which was made in their honor, and may you know eternal love and peace as you are laid into the arms of God. Rest In Peace my brother. Both you, and this day, will never be forgotten.

Again, we lose a good officer at the hands of a predator who has no respect fior the law or the officers who carry out their daily duties. The family, agency and our officer brotherhood have lost a fine man. The officer has made the ultimate sacrafice. We will all miss you, may God bless you and your family, Rest In Peace we will keep you in our prayers

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

A uniform, a gun, a badge upon your chest.
Theses things make not super beings... just men and women, human
Like the rest.
Though sometimes taken for granted,
Or even viewed with scorn or spite...
Some eyes see you for what you truly are...

My thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Robert French at this time. I know he was taken just too soon and I am sure the suspect who did this will hopefully receive the death penalty for killing a law enforcement officer in the line of duty. It is a sad time for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and who work the department as they mourn the loss of a fallen deputy.
