I remember being sent to the midnight shift (West Memphis PD) and how upset I was with the process. You explained to me the positives of working midnight's and I was hooked. That was 12 years old ago & two departments and we never lost contact with each other, even when you left for Yell County and I went to Memphis PD. I miss the long conversations about the weirdest things and your love for the Air Force. You were the best supervisor and genuine humane being that ever graced my presence.
You were never scared to rumble with a violent suspect and it inspired us all to look fear in the face and fight on. I haven't cried this hard, since Micheal C. Waters was killed 09/11/03 E.O.W.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
