May God comfort the family, friends, and the Delaware State Police in this difficult time. Although Trooper Ballard paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, his actions contributed to the elimination of a murderous killing machine, for which we are grateful.

Rest well brave Trooper

God gave us memories
So that we could have roses in December
May you find peace
in each and every memory.
My former husband was a New Castle County Police officer. there was not a time when he left for his shift that I did not pray for his safe return, he did lose one member of his class: Paul Sweeney, That funeral was a tribute t LEO This outpouring of love and respect is phenominal. I was grateful to see messages from so many other states and from Canada The long blue line will remain strong. God bless Steve's family and all DE State TRoopers. I must admit I was relieved that the officer killed was not the son of two close friends,

I am a mom of a 15 year NJ LE Patrol and on call Det. Corporal.
I babysit my grandchildren often, sometime staying over. My son comes down every morning and leaves his wife, son, and daughter. We silently know he may not return home. We never speak about that. I tell my son every time before he walks out that door that I love him, and to be safe out there. As I raised my children as a single mom, I taught my children that no matter what-"We NEVER go to bed mad at each other" Nothing is that important.
This fine young respected Trooper has family, blood, and citizens who love and admire him.
These murders of our law enforcement nationwide is senseless. I am not even able to listen to the news any longer for about 6 months now. We are loosing our brotheres and sisters at an alarming rate. Thank you all for leaving your homes each day and night to go out and protect US, protect those you disagree with yet are always open to offer a positive avenue, thank you for saving loose animals and wildlife, for going into unsafe places none of us can even imagine.....just plain....
THANK YOU. St. Michael, please call the Angels and ask them to spread theirWings.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Stephen was killed. .

To the Ballard family, fellow officers, and all who call Stephen beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Corporal Ballard gave to his community and the citizens of Delaware , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 26th, 2017.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray Psalm 91 over all LEO’s and this prayer also:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over six years. I pray that Stephan's life and death will bring glory to His name.

Trust those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.
