Two days ago, 1/20/23, it was 6 years since Michael has gone on to be with the Lord in eternity.
Sgt. Jerry Maye of the Westwego Police Department started a tradition to stand on the corner in silence at the site of the incident from 06:15 – 06:45 with an American Flag and a Marine Corps Flag, flying in honor of Michael's contribution and sacrifice. Sgt. Jerry did this for the first four years.

Unfortunately, Sgt. Jerry has moved, but I have continued with the same tradition. Last year, for 5th Year, I continued, on that misty morning, with the same tradition, honoring my son.

This Year, the 6th Year, my oldest son, my brother, his wife, my sister and I, all continued on with the tradition started by Sgt. Jerry. I would like to thank him for his dedication and in starting this annual remembrance of Michael.

My wife and I continue, in God’s strength, to walk in forgiveness. My wife said in Michael’s eulogy, that God did not take Michael, but he received Michael. What a great thought!

“God Does Not Waste a Hurt” … that is a motto of a program that my wife and I facilitate called “Celebrate Recovery”.

Because my wife and I are Powerless of everything that has happened, we had to learn to fully “Trust in God” and that He knows what He is doing and that He has a Perfect Plan. At times we may not understand what that perfect plan is, but He does have a purpose.

God has allowed us to see so much good to come out of such a tragic situation. We continue to see, even today, how much Michael’s life and his testimony has touched and impacted people. It has opened doorways to connect with other hurting parents that have lost their Officer at the annual C.O.P.S. Parent’s Retreat. I have bonded with so many parents over the years.

I’m very proud of my two boys and I want to let Michael know that he will Never Be Forgotten.

Louviere family and friends sorry for your loss may God grant you all with a speedy healing. Ofc. Louviere Wow what a true hero thank you for your Ultimate Sacrifice. Stopping while on his way home to assist with persons in need of help and your life is taken away in an instant. What a coward this man is/was shooting you from behind. The only thing i can say is im sorry that he had to take his own life and a fellow Officer couldn't of had the opportunity to do it for him.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Michael was killed. .

To the Louviere family, fellow officers, and all who call Michael beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you. You were so young and robbed of so many years.

My son was also your fellow Marine so I thank you also for your service to our country in the Corps and bid you Semper Fi.
