Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

I have lifted your family to God every morning for over five years. I pray that Raymond's life and death will bring glory to His name.

Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Yesterday I witnessed the first police funeral motorcade as Office Murrell passed by Finley and Roosevelt in Lombard. The ISP motors escorted the hearse and hundreds and hundreds of police vehicles from around the state following. It went on for about an hour but what struck me the most was the number of people who saw it coming, baled out of their cars like me, businesses or were set up waiting and stood at attention as it passed by. If anyone doubts where citizens fall when it comes to the police, it IS with the police. That was gratifying to see because sometimes we wonder.

Secondly our condolences to your mom and dad. The seem like very, very nice people and we bet that is how you were raised too. Their loss is ours too. We saw news coverage with them sharing pictures of you growing up and enjoyed the 1970 Olds 442, blue of course that you guys were restoring. That was a great year for cars and yours looked like a real cherry.

Its hard to say much else that will make your loss any easier to accept. But RIP Raymond Murrell. You were a great young man.
