Reflections for Detective Jerry Ronald Walker

Jerry and I met while on duty and quickly formed a friendship. We backed each other on traffic stops even though we didn’t work for the same department. Little Elm and Frisco shared a boundary, which was a busy road common for drug smugglers. I retired two years before his death and was devastated when I heard the news.

I still wear a wrist band for Jerry to this day and remember him. Always praying for his family and children. He was a family man.

Jerry and I worked at LEPD. We were both SROs. He was at the high school and I at the middle school. We met often and assisted one another often. We were very close and the best of friends. I retired in 2009 and he was still there. I was so upset by his murder that I could hardly function. Jerry was just the best including husband and dad. I hope his family is doing well. I miss Jerry and always will.

I have known Jerry for many years, I remember the entire family from Singapore and Rio. I babysat for Uncle Bruce and Aunt Bev many times. Over the years we lost touch but I have always held this family in my heart and I always will. May God bless you all and keep you.

Family is not just an important thing, it's everything. Family is forever. Family is not determined by last name or blood, but by commitment and love. Even when we struggle to like each other, we always love each other. We have each other's backs, always. We will never be whole again, but we will keep going and we will do our best to do what's right- in your memory. We won't judge, we won't hate. We will celebrate your life even though we still hurt, we still mourn and we still perform our daily duties without complaint. I will never forget you and the knowledge you passed on as my FTO, my supervisor, my co-worker, my friend.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave a thought and prayer for our family and Jerry's co-worker's. Our children will always miss their daddy and they will be forever proud of the sacrifice he made to keep them safe that very day. Not everyone knows but, Jerry was shot and killed in the very neighborhood our home is in. It has been tough for us so far but we take it day by day. To those of you who have lost a loved one, our hearts go out to your families as well. God bless you all.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jerry was killed.

To the Walker family, fellow officers, and all who call Jerry beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support.
