I will never forget hearing the news that Steven had been shot in Central Park and he was in critical condition...that fateful day started a new life for all the McDonald families. Steven's life and story influenced and inspired so many New Yorkers and police officers from across the country and around the world. Steven became an inspirational leader who no doubt saved so many lives/souls by teaching perseverance and forgiveness. Steven's legacy resides with his entire family, son, NYPD and in the hearts of all those who had come to know his name and story. The law enforcement community now has has another patron saint. No doubt, Steven now stands beside St Michael.

Peace be with you and your family Sgt Carlile. I never heard your warrior story before today. If my math is correct, you served a 31 year sentence as a victim of a horrific crime. That crime was committed by a criminal, whom served, an insulting, 11 year prison sentence for what he did to you. This could only be allowed to happen by person(s) who were wrongfully appointed. Clearly they made extremely lenient judgement, based on personal opinions, ideals or political agenda, completely absent of common sense judgement.
Thank-you Sgt. Carlile, for your sacrifice in the name of public safety. Please forgive the rest us for not vindicating the wrong that was done to you and your family. We all clearly failed you by not securing at-least a token justice, for the 31 year price you paid and ultimate death. I know in my heart, both the acting offender(s) and judicial perpetrators, will be held accountable. Rest now, we got this.
