Reflections for Deputy First Class Norman Cecil Lewis

You will be missed old friend, but never forgotten. Keep riding brother... cruising on your Harley. I will always remember the kindness, friendship, and camaraderie you showed me. RIH Norm.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Absolutely tragic. Deputy Lewis, thank you so much for your service not only to the citizens of Orange County but, truly, to the entire country. I have literally heard nothing but incredible things about you, and as a fellow graduate of UCF and a member of the law enforcement community, you are my family. You lived as a hero and will forever be remembered as one. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Big Worm, you could light up a room wherever you went with your smile and infectious laugh. That light only comes from God. Heaven now has another angel. Rest in peace. You will always live in our hearts.

I am just shattered over this loss. I am OCSO family, a WPHS graduate, and Orlando native. I did not know Big Norm personally, but find many of our circles intertwine and he worked daily or weekly with family in motors. My heart hurts for friends and family as I know this is a huge loss, but also to the community. I am so sorry. Words can just not express.

Deputy First Class Lewis,

I want to thank you for your service, and for paying the ultimate sacrifice while trying to protect your brothers & sisters in law enforcement, as well as the public. I know that all too often, police officers get a bad rap. While I did not know you personally, your photos with your law enforcement family paint a wonderful picture. You can tell that you LOVED your job, and your brothers and sisters in blue. I'm confidant that you died doing what you love. I find peace knowing that you did not die alone. A civilian was there with you holding your hand. Thank you for your service. Your brothers & sisters will take it from here. Please watch over them from Heaven.

To your family:

Words cannot express the pain that I know you're feeling. The anger that you have that Norman was taken from you far too soon. Please know that you are not alone. A multitude of people, lots with no ties to law enforcement, are standing right beside you. We hurt for you. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that one day, you can find peace in reading these reflections that were written for you, and Norman.

Prayers for you all during your time of need.
