A Prayer for Deputy Sheriff Kenneth H. Maltby:

Lord God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Deputy Sheriff Kenneth H. Maltby, of the Eastland County, Texas Sheriff’s Office, was taken from us suddenly and violently in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the Cross. Heavenly Father, as we mourn the death of our Brother-in-Blue, Deputy Sheriff Kenneth H. Maltby, show us the immense power of your goodness and strengthen our belief that he has entered into Your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

In 2010 I was a Special Ranger for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. I was working a cattle theft case that involved cattle stolen from near De Leon, Comanche County, Texas. I recovered the cattle near Schwertner, Williamson County, and put two cowboys in jail for the offense. In the days that followed I worked with Deputy Ken Maltby who was then working for the Comanche County Sheriff's Office. Ken was a great help. Very pleasant and we got the case wrapped up very quickly.

I have no words that are adequate. No words that are sufficient to express the sorrow for the loss of this fine law enforcement officer. May God's blessings be poured upon his family, friends, and coworkers.

Special Ranger Doug Hutchison, Retired
Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assn.

When Ken was a rookie on DPD, I had the privilege of being his training officer. He was the perfect rookie. He was quiet and unassuming but very quick to pick up on facets of his training. He was a good man who loved his family and his work. If you got in a storm, you didn't have to worry about your back because Ken was always there. He will always be remembered and loved.
