The Never Agains

What 5 Dallas Police Officers did not know when they woke on July 7, 2016
They did not know this would be the worst day in Law Enforcement since 911
They did not know this was the last day they would:
See the sun rise and set
Shower and shave
Brush their teeth
Put on their vest
Put on their uniform
Tie their shoes
Walk their dog
Pet their cat
Clean a litter box, a bird cage, a fish tank
Make their morning coffee
Fry an egg, make their toast, pour their orange juice
Raise their American Flag
Kiss their Loved one’s goodbye
Secure their home
Check their tires
Drive their car to work
Pay a bill - drop it in a mailbox
Worry about their family’s safety
Worry about a stranger's safety
Think about their parents
Remember a friend
Think about their children and grandchildren’s future
Pick out the next movie they would see or book to read
Smell a flower
See a painting
Admire a garden, a tree
Hear a bird sing

Watch children play
Admire a pretty girl
Help an elderly person solve a problem
Earn their pay for a shift well done
Say a prayer
Wonder if it would rain the weekend coming up
Laugh at a joke
Tell a joke
Agree/disagree with a fellow officer
Obey their supervisor
Debate Hillary /Trump
Mow their lawn
Wash their car
‘Honeydo’ something for their wives
They didn't know they would never again:
See another baseball or football game
Fire up the grill
Swim in the ocean
Check their email, Facebook a friend or check out a tweet
Shake their partners hand
Pick up something for their wives on the way home
Buy her a valentine
Blow out another candle on their birthday cake
Enter a church again
Take a vacation again
They would never again see, kiss or love their wives or children or see their children grow or their children's future children
They didn’t know they would never watch the news again
They didn't know they would be the news at the end of the day
They didn't know any of this for this was the day they would take their last breath and die a heroic death
They didn't know they were Heroes even before they made the ultimate sacrifice in their profession

They didn't know their death would come from someone that didn't know them and someone that they didn't know
They didn't know it would come from an evil, horrific, cruel act of hatred and violence
They didn't know they would not have time for last words, last prayers, last goodbyes and last Peace with God
They didn't know they would create a global tsunami of tears and push their Country into an abyss of grief and sorrow.
They didn’t know the Flag they loved would be lowered to Half Mast to Honor them.
They didn't know they mattered that much; but they do
They didn't know they would be immortal; but they are
They didn't know they would rest that evening in the light and peace of their Creator’s Heaven and Angels would be singing for them. They didn't know they would be saluted that day by the very noble profession they served; and saluted again when they were welcomed by those that have gone before them.
They didn't know all this - on this day - but we know. We who are left to cry, mourn and grieve for them and try to figure out the WHY.
What's left for us is to return the noble, heroic, valiant and brave sacrifice made by Dallas Police Officers Brent Thompson, Lorne Ahrens, Patrick Zamarripa, Michael J. Smith, and Michael Krol by doing something meaningful for their loss. Let's remember and live a founding principle of our Country - All Men Are Created Equal - for those words are a Universal Truth. And while we enjoy the freedom to speak, lets watch that our words spoken and written are not hateful or hurtful. For those of us who know and intrinsically believe all lives matter, let's just keep saying ‘Black Lives Matter’ until we don't have to say them anymore.
Let's Remember, Honor, Support, Help and Appreciate those we need who serve our Safety and Freedom. Let’s pray for the seven wounded, still healing, and the families of those 5 Dallas Police Officers lost whose lives will never be the same again. Let’s keep their Chiefs in our prayers also while they lead their law enforcement teams that must continue to serve and protect its citizens. Let’s live in harmony and peace for we all bleed the same color. Do we really love our Country if we don’t respect its principles and obey its laws and love and respect the people we share it with? Let’s judge others only by the good or bad deeds they do and by what is the same in all of us - not what is different. Let that be the legacy of the Dallas Five Officers - that our Country is made better by their lives and the tragic loss of their tomorrows. Let the best in them, that they gave up for us, bring out the better in all of us for all of our tomorrows.
