On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Lorne was killed.

To the Ahrens family, fellow officers, and all who call Lorne beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you. This should never have happened.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Corporal Ahrens gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 7, 2016

Soldier/citizens who placed others before themselves day in and out, as professionals of The Thin Blue Line. As a citizen grateful to be residing in Texas, I am thankful each day for men and women of this caliber. May the cherished memories of your love and unselfish lives sustain your loved ones in the time to come. Rest in peace. With respect...

Rest in Peace Sr. Cpl. Ahrens......YOU ARE A TRUE HERO!!!!

May the Lord always be with US in our time of need.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”
