Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Francis Michel, Jr.

Go with God my brother. We will ensure that your wife is looked after as she is family. Your killer will soon follow you but he will not be headed to the Pearly Gates, rather he will be going to Hell where he belongs.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

Rest in Peace my brother, I have lost another of my family, it is almost more than I can bear. I cry for you and your family. I will morn your family's loss. The life of a brave honorable man taken by a coward. He was a member of my family too, a brother a man of honor, a protector. I hope the court does the right thing and punishes this coward to the maximum punishment slowed by law. I pray for your loss, I know there is nothing I can say that will relieve your pain. I hope the coward that perpetrated this act pays the ultimate price, and I hope you can only remember the good times you had with David. I will pray for your family and I for one will NEVER FORGET HIS SACRIFICE OR HIS MEMERORY. Rest in peace my brother.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Deputy david Michael of the Jefferson Parish, LA Sheriff's Department at this time of grieving as well as the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department as they mourn the loss of a fellow deputy who was shot and killed by a suspect he was questioning before he was killed. There have been a few police officers who have been killed this month. It can be a tough time for any law enforcement agency to deal with the loss of an officer. He will be missed by all of his fellow deputies and the sheriff as well.

A Prayer for Deputy Sheriff David F. Michel, Jr.:

Lord God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Deputy Sheriff David F. Michel, Jr., of the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office, was taken from us suddenly and violently in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the Cross. Heavenly Father, as we mourn the death of our Brother-in-Blue, Deputy Sheriff David F. Michel, Jr., show us the immense power of your goodness and strengthen our belief that he has entered into Your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
