Reflections for Police Officer Steven Michael Smith

I miss ya brother; think about you all the time- boxing— eating that little short punch into the ribs over and over… laughing together at the jail or meeting for coffee. It’s a grayer world without you, Mike.

I woke up this morning thinking of the horrible news. Mom and dad were so upset as was I. Smitty, Spider Monkey, Steve... you were an amazing man. You are truly missed. Chewie retired on the 3rd and it made me think where you would be on that list . I hope you aren’t causing too much ruckus up on the streets of heaven, I’ve heard the stories of your shenanigans from mom and dad. You may be gone, but I want you and everyone else to know you’re not forgotten.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Miss you my friend.

Been two years since you caught that fatal bullet. You are sorely missed.

Those reading this from afar, Steve was a true warrior. Loved the righteous fight. Always ready to jump in the "ring" and get bloody.

When we were partnered in a plain clothes street crime enforcement team years back. I remember a family member asking if I worried about getting my ass kicked or hurt. I told them emphatically, No. I have "Smitty" with me!

A true police partner and kindred spirit. Miss you dearly brother.

Bless the warriors and blessings to your family.

"SMITTY" Thank you for fighting "The good fight"! You are one of Columbus Police's best ever "Warriors" in our history of a Div. of Police. A famous Quote by General Patton, that has been repeated several times, "It is Foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died, Rather we should thank God that such men have lived". Your Brothers and Sisters of The Columbus Div. of Police will miss you very much, may God Bless you on your new journey in Heaven. #1557

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Steven was killed.

To the Smith family, fellow officers, and all who call Steven beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Smith gave to his community and the citizens of Ohio, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 12, 2016.
